How people drank becherovka in the past and how they drink it today

The traditional quality of Becherovka has lasted the centuries. The company has changed ownership. The boxes, bottles, and business and sales strategy have changed. The way in which customers consume their popular beverage has also changed.

At the beginning of its nearly two-hundred-year history, people did not actually drink Becherovka. It was taken as stomach drops to improve digestion. However, in view of the delicious taste of this "medicine," it is no wonder that patients did not follow the prescribed dosage and gradually created the tradition of Becherovka as an aperitif served in small original cups or glasses. The never-ending interplay between supply and demand then led to the mass consumption of Becherovka in pubs and restaurants as well as in households.

In the 1960s, Becherovka became even more popular, thanks in part to the introduction of "Beton" on the occasion of the 1967 World Expo. Beton – Becherovka mixed in a refreshing combination with tonic water – soon became one of the most popular mixed drinks.

How do people drink Becherovka today?

Its lovers prefer to enjoy it ice cold, and thanks to the dynamic growth in popularity of mixed drinks – which have literally flooded the Czech market – it can be found in more than twenty different cocktails.
